I work in a motel in Norfolk,Va. I make less than min.wage & tips really help. Why not tip ?
Someone started to leave a penny heads up if they like the room but it's more disappointing to have us get only 1 cent.

Answer 1 :
Whoever is doing that is really cold and callous If you get good service your should leave the standard tip. If you get outstanding service you should leave a larger one.
Answer 2 :
why tip you for doing what you are paid to do? it is illegal to pay less than minimum wage. they can count tips as part of your wages but you still have to make minimum wage. if you aren't making enough, find another job
Answer 3 :
my best friend used to clean rooms and i helped her we rarely got a tip because i also worked at the front desk and i would charge almost 100 over what we were really asking for so well when someone spends 200 on a room for a they don't want to tip because why pay extra for something that should be done anyways...my suggestion do as many rooms as fast as you can get that 4$ a room
Answer 4 :
I appreciate good service, and always leave a tip for housekeeping. It may be your job, but service should never be taken for granted. Maybe you should find a better hotel to work.
Answer 5 :
Tip the maids? I do that when I'm there for an actual stay, like at a resort or a hotel for a weekend. I'm not going to leave a tip at some filthy dump motel when I just want to have a bed for a few short hours of sleep. Sorry, but dropping $40-$50 for a disgusting bed is already a rip off, so if they can't pay you well from that scam, then they are ripping us both off. What does it cost them for the real estate, cleaning and utilities I used for 6 hours? $2 maybe? The rest is profit. Too bad, take it up with them.
Answer 6 :
Historically people don't tip for maid service. At $100+ per night, one would think the motel could pay their house keepers a living wage. As I recall, even the dumpiest of rooms at Virginia Beach were closer to $200/night. People sticking their hands (or tip jars) out has gotten way out of hand.
Answer 7 :
Giving tips are going to become yesterdays.Everyone's pocket is getting tighter as well and no one wants to spend their hard earn money just like that.it's better for you to develop some skills and get better job so you don't have to rely on just tips only.To me it's just stupid.
Answer 8 :
for years i cleaned motel rooms and only a few times did some one leave a tip i would think that it would be common courtesy to and common sense to tip unfortunately i believe that most people don't even think of tipping house keepers sorry about the penny and may you get plenty of tips in the future
Answer 9 :
Some don't know. Some tip depend on service. It all depends. If they think you gave bad service you don't get a tip. I tip room maids two bucks a day when I stay (or five bucks a weekend) on average.
Answer 10 :
It is the clientele-not your service. Apply at a nicer hotel. Go apply at the Sheraton at Waterside or Holiday Inn at Greenwich. If you have reliable transportation go to the Va Beach Resort & Conference Center on Shore Drive or one of the more expensive hotels on the oceanfront which caters to the business elite during the winter months. The average tip per day per room is about $5.00. Good luck to you!
