I grew up in Hampton, VA. We were able to get a work permit from our guidance counselors at school. But my guidance counselor would only issue them for students 15+ with decent grades.

i don't think kids are even allowed to work at that age

Depending on the laws in that state, you may or may not be able to work. If you know you are, your school will be able to provide you with a work permit.

Sorry, dude. I think you gotta be 14. Here's where it says so in Virginia employment law... TITLE 40.1. LABOR AND EMPLOYMENT CHAPTER 5. CHILD LABOR § 40.1-88. Work-training certificate A work-training certificate shall permit the employment of a child between fourteen and sixteen years of age during school hours when enrolled in a regular school work-training program pursuant to a written agreement containing the same provisions as specified in § 40.1-89.
