I was trying to search for maybe a flood map, but no luck. I'm thinking about maybe just buying a house in Virginia Beach that's closer to Norfolk. My fiance works in the Naval base so traffic is horribe coming from Suffolk area. Please help.

That whole area is less than 20 ft above sea level. You might find a home on higher ground or mound of earth, but those would be rare. Shop around is the best advice I can give you. You might find a home on higher ground, but not if a good neighborhood. You might find a home but can't afford it. There seems to always be something that you'll have to compromise on when looking for a home. I lived in that area for 3 years during the early 1980s. We had a very difficult time finding housing we could afford in a good, clean, safe neighborhood. Most of what we looked at that time were close to being tenement type housing. I think that if you stay away from the James River and ocean and the bay, you'll probably reduce your chance of storm flooding.
